Most people today are very preoccupied with chasing dreams or working to keep the dream going. In this world, from our childhood years straight into our adulthood, we’re told to chase our dreams and that is how we find happiness, when we accomplish our dreams.
So, naturally as we grow older we feel that is the purpose of life basically, to accomplish our dreams. But, what does God want us to do? What is His will for our lives? What will please God? Most people never really ask themselves that question.
Sometimes we forget that one of the things Jesus told us to do if we are to be His disciples, is to denying ourselves, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25
Losing our lives to find it is something we have to understand. Sometimes one of the things that is hardest to deny ourselves of, besides various vices, are our dreams. Having aspirations to excel in life isn’t necessarily bad, especially if it’s because you want to be able to take care of you family; but allowing ourselves to be so completely caught up in chasing our dreams that we forget what is most important, can leave us still feeling empty after all our various accomplishments. What is most important is seeking God’s Kingdom first and His righteousness.
Resisting the things based on your own human understanding we believe is best instead of embracing the things God desires and expects of us, can sometimes be quite difficult, especially if we want people to think we made something of ourselves in this life. It’s so important to put away from ourselves the idea that we have to impress upon people that we made something of ourselves, we weren’t created to live our lives seeking validation from this world by proving that we became “somebody”, God knows our true value and we can find out what is is only by first seeking Him.
If you don’t know His will for you, you can always ask Him, it is written that God never sleeps nor slumbers,(Psalm 121:4) it is also written that, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
We are to acknowledge God in all our ways and He will direct our paths. Too many people are drunk on selfish ambitions, and chasing dreams, that they end up missing out on an abundant life that is only found in Jesus Christ. It took me a while to realize life is more than chasing dreams, maybe accomplishing them, your life revolving around your career and other things of the world and then you die, that’s not a life, it’s more of a prison, but Jesus came to set the captives free.
Some people are always trying to find or reinvent themselves. Find Jesus Christ then you will find out who you truly are in Him. No matter what you have accomplished in this life, it is nothing compared to what it is like knowing Jesus Christ, and none of the material things or accolades we receive from man, can we take with us when we die, or can help us to enter into heaven. We have to count all of that as nothing, just like Paul said in Acts 20:24.
All of our degrees, trophies, titles, money, associations, and whatever other monetary possessions we have acquired throughout our lives, are nothing when we look at what really matters, and that is living our lives for God, putting aside pour will and living out God’s will, which is to be holy, righteous through having faith in Jesus Christ, being loving, patient, and godly. When we count our worldly achievements as nothing and are willing to lose all of that in order to receive what is much greater, which is eternal life in Jesus Christ, that is how we lose our lives, in order to find it. We got to remember this, ” Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6. Heaven and earth will pass away but only the word of God endures forever, (Matthew 24:35, Luke 21:33, Isaiah 40:8).
Pursue God’s kingdom and His righteousness, not dreams.
