When we say we believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, do we truly understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
One of the biggest problems today in the Church is a lack of understanding. People say they believe, but when you take a closer look and listen to what some of these people say, it is clear that they are void of actual understanding, and if they were honest with themselves they would admit this and try to eliminate ignorance.
It’s okay to admit you really don’t get it, God will provide understanding for those who don’t have it but want it, all we have to do is ASK FOR AN UNDERSTANDING HEART. That is better that claiming to believe and understand yet in truth you do not, and because of the failure to admit your ignorance and because of the failure to seek God for the answers, you end up remaining ignorant and perishing in ignorance. This doesn’t have to be us, we have the scriptures and we have access directly to God our Father through prayer. What can hinder us then?
I think if everyone who says they believe, truly did understand the Gospel, there would be total transformations, especially renewed minds that are filled with understanding the word and will of God. Instead, sadly, there are more hardened hearts, and dull of hearing people who claim to believe but do not understand what they believe, and relied on the wisdom of man to gain understanding of God, when God is right there willing and able to give us the understanding we need to perform His good, acceptable, and perfect will. Remaining in ignorance and placing all your trust in the wisdom of man is dangerous because it leaves room for the enemy to come in and deceive us.
The books of Romans, Galatians, and Hebrews explains some VERY VERY VERY important things that if any believer doesn’t or hasn’t grasped, then what exactly do you believe when you say you believe?
You know that Jesus died for your sins, but do you in all honesty fully understand why, how, and what happens next? These books do not negate the relevance of ALL the other books in the Bible, but these books explain the changes of the Law, these books show how the priesthood changed, how Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophecies spoken of Him in the Laws, Prophets and Psalms, (Luke 24:44). Hebrews and Colossians especially explains who Jesus was, why He came, why He had to become human, why He was crucified, why He had to die, what all we gain from both His crucifixion and resurrection? Why it’s all still VERY relevant today and will be relevant until He returns. Hebrew also explains the DIFFERENCE between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. They are DIFFERENT.
The Old Covenant were laws given to Moses on Mount Sinai, which are the 10 commandments. Scripture specifically calls the ten commandments the covenant given to Moses, (read for yourself Exodus 34:27-28, Exodus 31:18, Deuteronomy 4:13). The New Covenant is not on stone (like the 10 commandments, the law), it’s not the letter (the law), but it is established through Jesus Christ, it is written instead on our hearts. “This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Hebrews 8:10.
The laws written on our hearts are not the laws given to Moses on Mount Sinai, like some misunderstand it is saying. If these people thought about that understanding they would realize it makes no sense. If the old passes away and has been made obsolete,(Hebrews 8:13), how is it also the New Covenant? Then what exactly is New about the NEW Covenant? Christ taught us you cannot put New wine in Old wineskins, Mark 2:22, Matthew 9:17.
The New Covenant was even prophesied about by the prophets in the Old Testament, Jeremiah 31:33. When we are urged in the New Testament to keep God’s commandments, many take that to believe we are still to keep the 10 commandments (people have this understanding because they do not know that the 10 commandments are the old covenant), many don’t know that because most pastors today do not teach that, and many don’t know that because they did not study the word of God to find this out, it’s all right there in the Bible.
Apostle John wrote this about the commandments we are to keep now, “And this is His commandment: We must believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.” 1 John 3:23. Jesus also said, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 That’s it. As written, all the laws and prophets hang on those two things. If you keep those you will be obeying God and living under the New Covenant established by Jesus Christ. We are no longer under the law, but we are under grace.
This is why studying God’s word and praying to Him is so important to get the correct understanding. The laws written on our Hearts in the New Covenant is the law of the Spirit of Life, Romans 8:12, the Law of Faith, Romans 3:27, and God’s commandment to Love.
God commanded us to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love one another the way He loves us. Luke:10:27, Mark 12:30-31. These are the commandments given to (us). ALL of this is right there in the Bible, right there at our fingertips, yet people still do not get it, they don’t find it because they do not seek, they just go with whatever the Pastor says. I confess I once didn’t get any of this until recently over a year or two ago, and I’m still learning. I saw others had understanding but I just couldn’t get it, and I realized why, I honestly wasn’t trying to even find out by studying God’s word and directly asking Him for His help. I didn’t understand what they were saying until I prayed for understanding, now I am understanding more and more and hope others will too. Only the Truth will set us free.
